Year 3
The TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs PPV blasts off LIVE from San Antonio, TX, with a very excited crowd awaiting an intriguing match card!!!
United States Championship (Tables Match):
Brett Diamond {c} vs. Renegade
Post-Match Segment
The confusion continues, but Renegade comes to the realization that he re-captured the U.S. Title! The "Party Animal" looks around the arena with a crazed expression, and then hugs the belt to his chest. He laughs hysterically, and then glances over at his knocked-out rival. Renegade's laughs turn sinister, and he tosses the belt aside and rolls out of the ring. In a wild move, he snatches a chair close to the ring and swings it around! Renegade slides back into the ring, staring at Brett and looking like he's going to rub salt in the wound by attacking him more!
The "Party Animal" chuckles and raises the chair... but Lee Money's music hits! In a moment very reminiscent of when Lee saved Renegade from a post-match attack by DMK last summer, "Cash" slides into the ring to protect Brett from the vicious assault! Renegade drops the chair, grabs his belt and staggers away with wide eyes and a frustrated look while the crowd whoops it up for Lee's last-second help! It's a chaotic scene, but Renegade is still the new champ. The camera focuses on Lee's angry face as he crouches over Brett, assuring the "Professional" that he is safe, as the segment ends! |
Ladder Match (For The Money in the Bank Briefcase):
Angus vs. Joseph T. Lutte
The next match of the night would be a Ladder match, with the coveted Money in the Bank briefcase hanging above the ring, between two European rivals with very different demeanors! Angus, the unbeaten "Irish Giant", won the contract back at last year's WrestleMania but has yet to even hint that he might use it soon. The contract expires at the following year's WrestleMania, which is only 3 months away. Angus has avoided the title scene since his debut, and so far it appears to be by design. Instead, Angus has played antagonist against Smackdown's heels, regularly inserting himself in ongoing feuds to help some fan favorites score a much-needed win. One of those heels is Joseph T. Lutte, the arrogant and wealthy French grappler, who's coming off a devastating Intercontinental Title feud against rival-turned-tag partner-turned-rival again Quinn Cadbury. Lutte encountered Angus backstage this month, claiming that the "Irish Giant" was wasting the prized briefcase. The following week, Joseph attacked Angus and tried to steal it, but Angus recovered in time to stop Lutte and reclaim the contract. A Falls Count Anywhere match was scheduled to settle their differences, but a controversial Angus win left the feud unsettled. Days before the PPV, the two rivals were guests on Guy Justice's "In Search of Truth" talk segment, where they agreed to this Ladder match!
Angus enters first to a huge ovation, carrying his briefcase calmly. He climbs into the ring, hands the briefcase to the referee, who hooks it up to the suspended wire. Angus watches it ascend above the mat, but then Joseph's music blares! The crowd unleashes their displeasure with the "Fantastic Frenchman", but the confident European struts to the ring and taunts the fans. He enters the ring and smirks at the "Irish Giant", trying to psyche him out. The two grapplers stare at each other, and the bell rings to start this exciting Ladder match off! Angus shows off his immense strength, dominating the first few minutes of the bout. He slams Joseph down and tosses him hard into the turnbuckle post, before exiting the ring to look for a weapon. The "Irish Giant" reaches under the ring and pulls out a steel chair, but... Joseph slides out and steals it from him! Lutte swings the chair and smacks Angus right in the face! The big guy crumples down to the floor, and Lutte eyes the ladder nearby. Joseph grabs the ladder, and when Angus staggers back to his feet, he smashes the metal climber into his foe's chin! With the "Irish Giant" down, Joseph tosses the ladder into the ring and gestures like he's going to try for the briefcase. But before he can, a rejuvenated Angus grabs him and drops him onto the top of the barricade! Joseph clutches his chest in pain as he staggers back, but Angus follows up with a vicious clothesline. The "Irish Giant" rolls Joseph back into the ring and spots another ladder leaning up against the barricade. Angus tosses it into the ring, and climbs in after. Angus grabs the ladder he just tosses in, hoping to use it against his rival... but Joseph surprises him with a leaping clothesline to knock it out of his hands! The crowd is loving this violent back-and-forth battle, and Angus uses the fans' support to fire himself up. He gets control of the battle, and leans a ladder into the corner. He lifts his dazed opponent up and whips him into the leaned ladder. Joseph's head and torso smash into the metal, and he bounces around and falls back into the ladder. Angus approaches and grabs Lutte, lifting him up... and powerbombs him into the ladder! The metal climber bends in half due to the impact, and Joseph flops down to the mat in pain! Angus takes a moment to gather himself, but he senses a chance to do something big. He waits for Joseph to stagger to his feet, and locks him in his Irish Squeeze signature submission! Joseph groans loudly, trying to catch the breath getting squeezed out of his chest. Lutte writhes back and forth, trying to loosen his foe's grip, and finally manages to get him in a headlock. Using his momentum, Joseph drops Angus into a reversal DDT... right onto another ladder below! Angus' head bounces off the corner of the prone ladder, and both men lay on the mat for a few moments trying to recover! Angus gets back to his feet first, but he's ready to make another big move. He kicks Joseph in the gut to stun him, and then lifts him up above his head for his Cliffhanger finisher! Angus pumps him up a few times, and then tosses him high into the air, sending Joseph crashing down to the mat from an over 10-foot drop! With Joseph down, Angus sets up a ladder and climbs up to try for the briefcase. The "Irish Giant" reaches up slowly, trying to unhook it... but Joseph recovers quicker than expected and shoves the ladder! Angus falls down off the top and crashes into the top rope, bouncing back violently! The first attempt to retrieve the briefcase goes awry! Joseph gets a little panicked after Angus got so close to the win, so he decided to try for victory himself. He pulls the ladder down, and wants to use it as a weapon again. When Angus rises off the mat, Lutte stuns him with another vicious ladder shot to the chin! Angus flops down to the mat, knocked out from the impact, and Joseph sets the ladder up to try for the briefcase. Joseph climbs up to the top and reaches for the prize, pulling hard and fumbling with the hook. But as he focuses on the briefcase... Angus angrily approaches from behind! The "Irish Giant" reaches his big arms up... and pulls Joseph into another signature Irish Squeeze! This one seems even tighter than the last, and Lutte gasps for air worriedly. Sensing that Joseph might break free or counter again, Angus quickly transitions the hold into his Cliffhanger finisher! Angus tosses Joseph into the air, but Lutte comes crashing down hard onto a flat ladder! The crowd whoops it up for the big move, and Joseph lays face down near the ladder. Angus sets up a different ladder, and appears determined to end this match right now. The "Irish Giant" climbs up and gets a good hold of the briefcase. Angus tries to unhook it for a few anxious moments but suddenly... Joseph is again on his feet! The damaged Frenchman scowls at his rival, and again gives the ladder a full-bodied push. This time, Angus tumbles off the top of the ladder... but lands outside the ring onto the ringside floor! The fall appears even more massive for the near-500-lb. grappler, and Angus lays without moving for a while. In the ring, Joseph had dropped to one knee, trying to recover after using his limited strength to push the "Giant" down. Lutte gathers enough energy to reset the ladder, and starts a slow climb to the top. Angus was still outside the ring, moving very slowly. Lutte takes a glance at his rival, and appears comfortable enough to finish his ascent and try reaching for the contract. Joseph's ribs are clearly injured, and reaching up with both arms causes him pain. He continues to fight through the pain, although he can't seem to get a good grip on the black briefcase. With Angus seemingly down for good, it appears like the "Fantastic Frenchman" has enough time to win! But... Angus re-emerges with a new tool, the sledgehammer! The "Irish Giant" had crawled to the apron, and under the ring found the same nasty weapon he used to beat Joseph a few weeks ago! Angus slides into the ring, spying Joseph trying desperately to grab the briefcase. Angus winds up and pounds the hammer into Joseph's back! Lutte shouts in pain, and flops off the ladder and back onto the back below. Angus delivers a few more shots with the sledgehammer, including a final smash into Joseph's injured ribs! Angus tosses the sledgehammer aside, while the "Fantastic Frenchman" rolls around in severe pain, clutching his torso. Angus uses the moment to again climb up the ladder. Angus reaches up slowly, trying again to unhook his briefcase. Surprisingly, a desperate Joseph crawls to the other side of the ladder, and does his best to go up the steps quickly. The fans start to buzz loudly, as either Angus will get the briefcase or possibly suffer another fall from his European rival. A moment later... Angus unhooks the briefcase a split second before Joseph can stop him, and the "Irish Giant" falls off the ladder with the briefcase clutched to his chest!!! The bell rings, and the crowd goes crazy! Angus has survived an insane battle with Joseph, but emerged as the victor to keep his unbeaten streak alive... and the Money in the Bank contract in his possession! Angus celebrates proudly, although he is obviously aware of how close to a loss he was. The image of Angus raising his fist, briefcase under his arm, with a cheering crowd, is the enduring image of this match! WINNER: Angus |
Backstage Segment
Prior to the next match, the cameras switch on backstage where we see Eve Torres relaxing. Eve returned to Smackdown this month, but turned heel in her return match and then shocked everyone days before the PPV by revealing her alignment with the sinister Mr. Black and World Heavyweight champ Eric Executioner. The reveal happened during a main event match between the 4 World Title competitors, and shocked former boyfriend Rebel Ford most. Rebel got distracted and got eliminated in the match, and clearly has some questions.
The camera pans and Eve turns her head, noticing someone else approaching. Stepping into frame is Rebel Ford, and he does not seem to be in a friendly mood. He addresses Eve. Rebel: "Hey Eve... can we talk?" Eve: "What do you want, Rebel?" Rebel: "You have to explain this to me. How... how in the world... could you even consider joining up with that creepy duo? After all the crap they put you through... I just don't understand." Eve takes a deep breath, and replies. Eve: "Rebel... it's very simple. I figured out that I needed to protect myself. Since I couldn't rely on others to help protect me... I had to align with someone I could trust." Rebel: "How? How could you trust them? Don't you remember what they did..." Eve: "Oh I remember very clearly what happened. I remember that I was in a relationship with someone who I felt cared more about me than a title belt... but I guess I was wrong. So I figured that to avoid more trauma... I would find someone that cared more about my well-being." Rebel: "There is no way that those two guys care more about you than..." Eve: "Rebel... I have to go. Good luck in the title match tonight. You're... gonna need it." Eve exits the scene and Rebel fails to stop her. A very angry and confused Rebel watches her go, seething as the segment comes to an end! |
First Blood Match:
Carson Pain vs. Gravedigger
This vengeful rivalry has finally come to a head, after months of brewing animosity, and someone will end up bloody by the end! At the beginning of Year 3, Carson was a newest reigning WWE Champion and Gravedigger was expected to join Raw after losing a "Loser Leaves the Brand" match at WrestleMania. Carson was embroiled in a feud with DMK, but during their Backlash PPV match, a video clip played to distract DMK and help Carson win. At the following month's Extreme Rules PPV, another video played and Gravedigger himself appeared to attack DMK to cause a DQ loss for champ Carson. Gravedigger focused on DMK, determined to destroy him en route to becoming a contender for the WWE Title. 'Digger won a King of the Ring PPV match over DMK, and then turned his attention to Carson's belt. At the Night of Champions PPV, a Triple Threat match between Carson, DMK & 'Digger took place but Carson retained the title there. The re-emergence of David Degenerate turned the WWE Title feud into a 4-way battle, which led to an elimination title bout at Summerslam. 'Digger and DMK's brawling got them eliminated by double countout, and David re-captured the WWE Title thanks to help from Mr. McMahon. 'Digger continued to feud with DMK, while Carson went on a desperate quest to win back the WWE Title from David. After Gravedigger failed in his mission to destroy DMK, he disappeared for over a month and apparently re-focused his attention to Carson. Claiming that "The Original" had received way too many chances at the WWE Title, the "Graveyard Monster" returned and attacked Carson in a #1 contender's match, ruining his chance to get another title match. A brawl broke out between the rivals the following week, with 'Digger busting Carson open. The sight of blood interested Gravedigger, and he requested a First Blood match with the fan favorite. Carson agreed, and they brawled right through the end of the final episode of Raw just days before the PPV, setting up a very exciting battle for Sunday!
Carson's music hit and the San Antonio crowd burst into cheers, hoping to see Carson defeat this evil "Monster". "The Original" performs his signature slide into the ring, getting another big cheer and then loosens himself up as he awaits his rival. A moment later, Gravedigger's theme plays and the crowd boos him heavily! 'Digger doesn't appear right away, and slight confusion sets in. But suddenly... the "Monster" comes sprinting down the ramp! Gravedigger slides into the ring and surprises Carson, tackling him down to the mat and unloading a furious attack! The crowd is stunned by 'Digger's aggressiveness, and the "Monster" rises off the mat to stare down his dazed foe. The referee uneasily calls for the bell to signal the start of this match, but the damage has already been done! Gravedigger nails Carson with a double-clothesline combo, setting the tone for how brutal this battle will be. But "The Original" re-calibrates himself, reversing a move into a DDT and following up with his crowd-pleasing Original Twist! He taunts the crowd, signalling that he's not going to go down that easy! But the "Graveyard Monster" hits back with a counter of his own, and follows up with a massive clothesline onto a seated Carson. The reversal dazes Carson and fires up 'Digger, and the "Monster" catches his rival with a nasty Devil's Cross signature chop! Carson flops down to the mat from the impact, and Gravedigger prepares to deliver an even bigger move. When Carson staggers back to his feet, 'Digger creeps up from behind... and plants him down with his Cemetery Slam finisher! The "Monster" appears to be in complete control, and decides that the squared circle is not big enough for them! 'Digger lifts Carson's limp body up and whips him hard into the nearest set of ropes. Carson tumbles over the top rope wildly and goes crashing down onto the ringside floor. Carson holds his head in pain, clearly dazed from the massive attacks he's faced so far. But outside the ring, Carson starts to rally back! A very even, back-and-forth battle takes place, with each man taking control at different moments. The action starts to travel up the ramp, and the fans watch excitedly as these two rivals use the environment to their advantage! Gravedigger lifts Carson up and tosses him onto the metal walkway, and Carson's body bounces and rolls towards the stage. "The Original" staggers up woozily, holding his injured skull. 'Digger tries a big running move, but Carson counters with a Big Apple! Gravedigger's masked head smacks hard on the ramp, which appears to daze him for a bit. But the determined "Monster" recovers quickly, and his damaged foe can't seem to stop him. Gravedigger again hits Carson with another double-clothesline combo, and Carson ends up face down on the lighted ramp. Gravedigger taunts the crowd and crouches over Carson's head. The "Monster" grips Carson's head and starts to deliver very sharp punches directly to his forehead, but the weakened fan favorite can't seem to muster the energy to protect himself. Sensing a big chance, Gravedigger grabs Carson's head with both hands, lifts him up... and smashes his head viciously into the metal ramp! Carson's head bounces off the walkway, but when he looks up... we can see the red blood starting to trickle from a cut on his forehead! The referee was watching nearby and notices the red liquid leaking out, and immediately calls for the bell! He steps in between Carson and 'Digger, checking out "The Original" and his wound. The "Graveyard Monster" watches silently for a minute, but then starts to realize the result... he just made Carson bleed, and won the match! Gravedigger walks a few steps towards the ring, arms raised in celebration, while the crowd boos him angrily! Behind him, the referee motions for medical personnel. Carson is still face down, breathing slowly but clearly in a lot of pain, with the blood slowly dripping down his face and onto the ramp. The medical crew assist "The Original", who can barely open his eyes or sit up. Eventually, they carry Carson and he gingerly walks past the ramp and stage area towards the medical area. The image of a proud Gravedigger while a bloody Carson shuffles away has the angry crowd stunned from the result! WINNER: Gravedigger |
