Year 2
July
The heat was increasing as the calendar turned to July but Eric Executioner still reigned over Smackdown as the World Heavyweight champ. The "Narcissist" did retain at last month's PPV, but it wasn't due to a normal victory. Eric smacked rival Ace over the head with the title belt, right in front of the referee, to lose by DQ but keep the title! Eric seemed worried that Ace was on the verge of winning the match and took desperate measures, but his actions angered the "Ultimate Superstar" even more. Ace demanded a "fair" rematch for the title, and GM Teddy Long agreed. Teddy scheduled the rematch for Night of Champions and made it... a No DQ match! With the option of losing & retaining gone, Eric had to focus again on taking Ace on and the fans were really pushing hard for the challenger to pull the upset!
The Tag Team Titles changed hands at last month's PPV, as the fan-fave super team American Cool beat the Bullet Boyz to capture the belts. Antonio Jordan & Krizz Torture enjoyed a great month, receiving lots of fan support and the envy of others. Meanwhile, the Tag Team division was undergoing some major changes as well, with 3 teams vying for a shot to face them. Parker & Coop, Billy Carter & Zach Wesley and Hitman Jack & Vincent Serum were all in contention, but only 2 teams were scheduled to face off in a #1 contender's match. Parker & Coop were set to face Hitman & Serum on an episode of Smackdown, when moments before the match, Billy & Zach attacked the Olympic duo backstage! They dragged their limp bodies out onto the stage and marched to the ring, essentially stealing their spot in the #1 contender's match! Despite the attack and entry into the match, Billy & Zach weren't able to be victorious as the "Lethal Canadian" and the "Vicious Vampire" won. Hitman & Serum then turned their attention to American Cool, and prepared for an exciting Tag Team Title match!
Intercontinental champ Joseph T. Lutte felt very proud of himself after retaining his title again at last month's PPV, beating Rusty with an illegal pin. The "Fantastic Frenchman" felt so proud that he wanted to throw a massive celebration, declaring him the best I.C. champ of all time. Joseph hounded GM Teddy Long, asking for him to supply funds for the supposed party. Teddy refused, but Joseph continued to annoy him about it. Finally, Teddy had enough and decided instead to schedule... 3 separate qualifying matches for a title defense! The wealthy European was stunned, as he had to watch 3 other challengers earn a chance to face him! Craig Bullet, Zach Wesley and rival Rusty all won their qualifying matches, and a Fatal 4-Way Elimination match was made for Joseph's Intercontinental Title!
The Cruiserweight Title had been absent on Smackdown since last November, but a 6-man battle royal was scheduled for the first episode of the blue show this month. One half of the Japanese luchadors, Alpha, entered as the champ but he was the 4th man eliminated! Tommy Parker and Lee Money were the final 2, and the "Up-and-Comer" used a hurricanrana to toss "Cash" out and win the belt! The victory gave the former Olympian his 2nd Cruiserweight Title reign!

August
The hottest event of the summer inched closer, and the Smackdown brand was really starting to heat up! World Heavyweight champ Eric Executioner continued to have control, and a little vicious streak emerged in his title defense against Ace at last month's PPV. The "Narcissist" brutalized the "Ultimate Superstar" in his victory, and the injuries Ace suffered sent him to the hospital! A few days after the PPV, Eric delivered a cocky, insulting promo to an angry crowd and issued an open challenge for his World Title. Much to his surprise... Gravedigger's music hit and the "Graveyard Monster" answered the call! 'Digger attacked the champ from behind and left him in a broken, beaten mess. The following week, a #1 contender's match was set up and Gravedigger stood tall, winning the match to officially put him in line for his first World Title opportunity! Despite 'Digger's looming threat, Eric remained arrogant in the lead-up to their match. His attitude not only angered the "Monster", but someone else as well... GM Teddy Long! Teddy was sick of Eric's constant mouthing off, so he put a stipulation on the title match to give his challenger a boost... a Cage match! Instead of having chances to escape through nefarious means, the only way for Eric to retain this time was to escape the 4 walls of steel!
The highly-anticipated Tag Team Title match at last month's PPV pit the popular American Cool champs against the hard-fighting duo of Hitman Jack & Vincent Serum. But just before the match started, Billy Carter & Zach Wesley attacked the challengers during their entrance! Billy & Zach were upset over losing the #1 contender's match to them, and decided to ruin their chance to win the titles. Antonio Jordan & Krizz Torture felt bad over the incident, but they finished the match to retain their titles. Hitman and Serum were livid over the loss, and decided to take out their anger individually. The "Lethal Canadian" caught the attention of Intercontinental champ Joseph T. Lutte, who was fresh off of retaining his title in a 4-way bout at the last PPV. Hitman sparked a feud with the "Fantastic Frenchman", and vowed to end his long title reign!
On the other hand, Serum turned his attention back to the ECW Title scene. Rival Zach Wesley was still reigning as champ since he beat the "Vicious Vampire" in June, and Wesley's unwarranted attack at Night of Champions made Serum look for revenge! Their feud got more intense, with nasty insults and several backstage brawls throughout the month. On the final Smackdown of the month, they faced off for Zach's ECW Title in an Extreme Rules match! Despite wanting revenge, Serum couldn't get the job done and the "Mohawked Maniac" retained his title.
The Tag Team champs were also scheduled for the Summerslam docket, but a new #1 contender team emerged: Parker & Coop! The former Olympians had been scratching and crawling their way back up the rankings since losing the Tag Titles at WrestleMania, but they had been piling up big wins recently. Tommy even still had the Cruiserweight Title and had a successful title defense on an episode of Superstars this month as well. Parker & Coop beat Hitman Jack & Vincent Serum in a #1 contender's match to give them a title shot and developed a somewhat-friendly rivalry with the fan-favorite American Cool duo. Both teams had lots of fan support, and Antonio & Krizz were concerned that an opponent with good teamwork would give them a serious challenge!
The final development for Summerslam was an interpromotional women's battle royal featuring 2 ladies from each brand. Smackdown's Eve and Beth Phoenix would face off against Raw's Maryse and Alicia Fox to see who could put together an impressive win!

September
The calendar turned to September, and the Smackdown brand had a new World Heavyweight Champion! Gravedigger outlasted Eric Executioner in a great Cage match at the Summerslam PPV, ending Eric's 5-month reign. The fans were extremely pleased to see the "Graveyard Monster" vanquish the cocky "Narcissist", giving him his 1st World Title reign! 'Digger gave an emotional promo a few days after the victory, viewing the title win as a culmination of a long journey. Eric was naturally upset over the loss, and demanded to have an immediate rematch. But GM Teddy Long was still angry over Eric's disrespectful actions while he was champion, and forced him to fight in a 6-man #1 contender's battle royal! Despite the challenge, Eric stunned the GM by winning the match and guaranteeing him another shot. With the rematch scheduled and the demonic Hell in a Cell stipulation in play, the rivalry between 'Digger and the "Narcissist" took a huge leap in intensity! Several violent altercations, a continued war of words and the general disdain they had for each other made the fans very excited to see them go to war inside the Cell!
Eric and Mack Wheeler had been allies for a long time, and the "Human Semi" had regularly teamed up with his pal throughout his World Title trials & tribulations. But after Eric's title loss, it started to become clearer that tensions were growing between them. Mack had been being more successful on his own, while Eric's arrogance cost him Smackdown's top prize. It was subtle, but fans were wondering if something more serious was going on.
In the Intercontinental Title scene, another cocky champion lost at Summerslam to the delight of the WWE Universe. Joseph T. Lutte, who had been reigning since Backlash, did not take challenger Hitman Jack as seriously as he should. And, as a result, the "Lethal Canadian" pulled a big upset and captured his 1st title as a member of Smackdown! The "Fantastic Frenchman" was livid over the loss, and demanded his rematch right away. But instead of handling business in the ring, Joseph resorted to several blindside attacks on the new champ! Hitman wanted desperately to get his hands on the arrogant European, and GM Teddy Long could only think of one way to solve the problem. Teddy granted the rematch, but decided to put them... in a Cage match! This way, Joseph had to face the angry Canadian champ instead of attacking out of the shadows, and the fans were wondering if Hitman could get his payback... and retain his title!
In other news, a new grappler joined the blue brand. Guy Justice, a supposedly-religious, athletic, charismatic superstar, made his debut this month and quickly made an impact by picking up several victories!
