July through September
Year 1
July
With the summer in full swing, the month of July began with many interesting developments on Smackdown. The most major one was the new Intercontinental Champion, "The Original" Carson Pain! Carson forced Travis Roarke to tap out at The Bash PPV to claim his 1st Intercontinental Title. Carson's popularity had been growing exponentially for weeks, and adding the title to his waist only made him more likable. But as Carson was rising up the ranks, another man was also drawing close. Eric Executioner had been lingering just slightly behind Carson, and during the month he finally broke through, including a win over ex-champ Travis Roarke, and became the #1 contender to Carson's new title. The rivalry between Carson and Eric developed very quickly, as Eric's selfish, narcissistic attitude clashed with Carson's clean-cut mentality. A title match was made, and the fans wondered if the title would change hands for the 3rd straight month!
Another big news item came from the WWE Chairman himself. At the beginning of the month, Vince McMahon announced that he wanted to reward different types of wrestlers and was going to reintroduce the Hardcore, ECW and Cruiserweight Championships. The Hardcore and ECW Titles would be defended in specialty gimmick matches, such as Extreme Rules, while the Cruiserweight Title would only be available to those who measure out at Cruiserweight or Light Heavyweight. The Hardcore Title would be exclusive to Raw, while the blue brand would inherit the ECW Title. The Cruiserweight Title would be a dual-brand championship.
As a result of the new titles in play, several members of the Smackdown roster competed for spots in the PPV title matches. A small tournament was held to determine the new ECW Champion, and Krizz Torture and Mack Wheeler advanced to the finals. They would face off in a Ladder match at the Night of Champions PPV. The Cruiserweight Title was going to be defended in a 6-man battle royal at the PPV, and qualifying matches were held to determine the 6 spots. Four Smackdown grapplers put themselves into position to compete for the smaller-guy belt. Rusty, Craig Bullet, Tommy Parker and Billy Carter each qualified for the match, and it seemed likely that the blue brand would bring the title home!
The other development of the month was the chaotic state of the tag team division. Despite the Tag Team Titles being challenged by 2 Raw-based teams, there were many Smackdown teams vying for spots. Gravedigger & Zach Wesley lost their title match at The Bash PPV, but they remained a serious threat to challenge. The Bullet Boyz, Parker & Coop and 2 Cool 2 Xtreme (Krizz Torture & Rusty) were all very competitive teams making their marks. The next set of Tag Team #1 contenders would likely be the team that rises from the ashes!

August
As Summerslam approached, the Smackdown brand was still loaded with quickly-developing superstars, but none that could truly challenge World Heavyweight champ Ace. The "Ultimate Superstar" had another dominant month, fending off all rivals and avoiding a PPV title defense. In the meantime, other feuds were heating up and a new superstar made his debut!
The biggest blue-brand rivalry was the continued battle between Intercontinental champ Carson Pain and Eric Executioner. At last month's PPV, Eric won their title match in controversial fashion but wasn't able to win the belt. Eric convinced the referee that Carson used the I.C. belt as a weapon, which he clearly did not do, and the official awarded the "Narcissist" the victory by DQ! This result and Eric's follow-up taunting enraged Carson, and the champ was willing to give Eric another title shot to prove his worth as a champion. He wanted to retain his title in legitimate action, and vowed to make his rival tap out at the summer's biggest event!
The newly-reincarnated ECW Championship was won by Mack Wheeler at the last PPV, but his title reign was immediately threatened by two... yes TWO... challengers! Due to a simple miscommunication, there were two #1 contender's matches held on an episode of Smackdown. Travis Roarke won the first battle, while Gravedigger claimed victory in the second. Instead of fixing the situation and awarding one of them the title shot, GM Teddy Long decided... to let BOTH of them challenge Mack in a Triple Threat match! The "Human Semi" was furious, but decided to stay focused on his opponents rather than the backstage politics. All 3 men had several battles, brawls and encounters along the path to Summerslam, and fans were interested to see who would emerge with the ECW Title!
The tag team scene on Smackdown was still jam-packed, with so many possible contenders looking to challenge for the belts held by Raw's Big Mutha Trucker & Tank Blazer. Throughout the month, several psuedo-"elimination" matches were held to determine who could get a shot at the titles. Eventually, the Bullet Boyz outlasted all and earned the change to take on the Badass Coalition team. To make things more interesting, both teams agreed to suspend the belts over the ring and settle things... in a Ladder match! Smackdown fans were curious if Craig & Tony could bring the Tag Team Title belts back to the blue brand.
Another reincarnated belt, the Cruiserweight Championship, fell into the possession of Rusty at the last PPV in a 6-man battle royal. The "2 Xtreme" brawler was then scheduled to defend his title... in the same match type! Rusty would be expected to face Anarchy, Dylan Dynamite, Tommy Parker, Joey Cooper and a debuting star known as Paulie Dominos. Paulie D., who goes by "Mr. Amazing" or the "Jersey Fist-Pumper", qualified for the title shot in only his first month on the blue brand. Would Rust be able to outlast 2 challengers from Raw, the Parker & Coop duo and a rookie competitor at Summerslam?

September
With summer ending and autumn approaching, the blue brand had suddenly become Carson Pain's show! The reigning Intercontinental champ won a #1 contender's match for the World Heavyweight Title, and decided to go into the next PPV with 2 title matches. It was going to be a tough endeavor, but "The Original" felt up to the challenge. His narcissistic rival Eric Executioner wanted another rematch after losing at Summerslam, and current World champ Ace was offended by all the attention Carson was getting. Carson had a few tough moments trying to handle both feuds, but he went into the PPV with momentum and the crowd's support! If "The Original" played his cards right, he could defeat Eric to retain his Intercontinental Title at the beginning of the evening and then overcome Ace in the dangerous Hell in a Cell in the show's main event to capture the World Heavyweight Title as well. The task seemed near impossible, but Carson had the fans believing in him!
The tag team division had been very strong lately, but the Tag Team Titles still remained with Raw's Badass Coalition duo of Big Mutha Trucker & Tank Blazer. The Bullet Boyz failed in their chance to win the belts at last month's PPV, but they still remained #1 contenders at the start of September. A series of tag matches took place, and through the carnage, the 2 Cool 2 Xtreme team of Kriz Torture & Rusty emerged as new contenders! The fans were behind them, which angered the reigning champs, and made for an interesting title bout!
The ECW Title scene had been wild since the title's reintroduction in July, where there's been 2 champions in only 2 months. At Summerslam, Gravedigger snuck in at the last second to pin champ Mack Wheeler and win the belt. Travis Roarke was also a participant in the Triple Threat match, and appeared poised to win before 'Digger pulled a fast one. Being so close to the win made the "Assassin" very angry, and a series of arguments and physical encounters led to a title match for the next PPV! The "Graveyard Monster" and the brawler from Sacramento would settle their title feud in the ring.
The Cruiserweight Title had also seen a lot of changes in its recent reincarnation, with Smackdown's Rusty winning the initial title bout and then Raw's Dylan Dynamite pulling off an upset at Summerslam. But September would again see another person claim the gold! Days before the Hell in a Cell PPV, Dylan was set to defend the title in a 4-man match on an episode of Smackdown. Despite coming in as champ, the "Dynamite Kid" would not leave in the same status! Instead, Smackdown's Craig Bullet outlasted the other 3 competitors to win the title!
