Tommy became a champion wrestler at a young age, and very quickly began to dominate opponents older than him. As a high school freshman in N.C., he won an individual conference title and finished 3rd in the state. That dominant performance earned him his "Up-and-Comer" nickname, and he continued to blow away opposing grapplers en route to 2 state titles. His high school accolades earned him a Division 1 college scholarship, which he rode into a individual national title as a senior. Following college, Tommy wanted to dream bigger and trained for the U.S. Olympic team and earned a spot on the 2004 Sydney trip. At the Olympics, Tommy wrestled well enough to earn a 4th-place finish which was just beyond the medal places. Despite his shortcomings, Tommy was proud of his efforts and actually earned a close friend along the way. Joey Cooper was a fellow Olympic teammate and the two developed a close bond. When they returned to the U.S., they wanted to continue their wrestling careers and entered a pro wrestling training camp. Their teamwork impressed the trainers and they quickly entered and began to dominate the tag team divisions in several independent circuits. After multiple tag title reigns, the WWE offered the duo a contract. They gladly accepted and now compete against the best teams in the WWE, which is great for these two Olympic athletes.
