Surrounded by gang and criminal activity, drug and alcohol abuse and a dead-beat father, David struggled through his early years of education and spent a lot of his free time roaming the dangerous streets of Dallas. The street skills he developed would actually help him later in his career, but it was the guidance of his school's wrestling coach that drove David to a career in professional wrestling. David's coach not only pushed him into success on the mat, but he showed David the light in terms of education. David's once-floundering grades suddenly shot up, and his naturally gifted mind began to soak up a large amount of knowledge. David became much smarter and apt in all subject areas amongst his peers, earning him the nickname "Genius". After David won 2 individual state titles in the sport he grew to love and graduated top of his class, he spurned college and was quickly signed by a local Southern independent wrestling league. There, David's street smarts and book smarts molded into the "Genius" wrestling machine you see today. But David began to slowly embrace his "bad" side, becoming one of the best heels in the league's history. David's desire for championship gold was similar to his opponents, but his sneaky and sly ways of winning or retaining title belts earned him the "Dangerous Genius" moniker. In fact, in his 2nd reign as Southern independent league champion, David held the title for an astonishing 383 days... but only had 1 clean victory during that time. His amazing ability to counter or use interference, distract referees, apply illegal holds, win with illegal pins and use of foreign objects made him the most annoying yet successful heel. His disdain for the common wrestling fan who "cheer the losers and boo the winners" made him the ultimate heel, and his belief that he was smarter than everyone led him to produce some of the most seething, hate-inducing promos. After his mark on the Southern league was completed, David eyed a bigger stage... the WWE. The world's most popular sports entertainment company signed David and it wasn't long before his dirty victories, reaction-causing promos and in-ring ability led him to a chance to challenge for the company's biggest prizes. Career Overview Year 1: Formed the Badass Coalition stable with Big Mutha Trucker, Tank Blazer & Dylan Dynamite... Defeated Antonio Jordan at the Extreme Rules PPV to win the U.S. title and begin a year-long feud with the "Mastermind"... At the conclusion of Summerslam, all the members of the Badass Coalition each held at least one title in a big sign of power but David was part of the losing side (he teamed with the Theory of Revolution stable of Rebel Ford and Renegade) in a 6-man tag match against Good As Hell... In October, David became the #1 Contender for the WWE title despite still remaining the U.S. champ and vowed to "unify" the titles by defeating then-champ DMK... In January, David lost his WWE title rematch against Antonio and failed to win the Royal Rumble... In February, he begged Raw GM Stephanie McMahon for a spot in any of the Elimination Chamber qualifying matches but she denied him a chance until the last week, in which he won a tough gauntlet match to earn the final Chamber spot... David again failed to win the Rumble, but rival Carson Pain did and became Hell's Genius #1 target... At the Elimination Chamber PPV, David won his 3rd U.S. title by defeating Carson thanks to DMK's distraction... Former friend Trucker feuded with David as WrestleMania neared, and it is expected they will fight over David's U.S. title sometime in Year 3 Year 3: Began the year as the reigning U.S. and Tag Team champ alongside DMK in the Hell's Genius team... He faced former stablemates Big Mutha Trucker and Tank Blazer at the Backlash PPV in a Triple Threat match for the U.S. Title, but retained the belt... In May, he and DMK lost the Tag Team Titles to the G.L.O.W. team of Joseph T. Lutte and Quinn Cadbury on an episode of Raw... At the Extreme Rules PPV, he lost the U.S. Title to Trucker... David broke up the team with DMK and decided to go solo... He challenged Trucker to a rematch at the King of the Ring PPV, but Trucker won the match to retain the belt... David disappeared for much of July, but re-emerged at the conclusion of the WWE Title match at Night of Champions, attacking champ Carson Pain... The next night on Raw, it was revealed that Mr. McMahon had aligned himself with David and had chosen him to be the next challenger for Carson's WWE Title... Gravedigger and DMK also had legit claims to a title match, so a Fatal 4-Way Elimination match was made... At the Summerslam PPV, David pinned Carson last thanks to interference from Mr. McMahon to win the match and his 3rd WWE Title... His win and Mr. McMahon's support gave the "Genius" some overconfidence, and he and the WWE Chairman forced Carson into several tough matches throughout September... David was unwilling to grant Carson a rematch, but Raw GM Stephanie McMahon intervened and made the WWE Title match... At the Hell in a Cell PPV, David faked an injury and deliberately took a countout loss to preserve his title reign... The feud against Carson continued, and Raw GM Stephanie McMahon scheduled a Steel Cage match for them in October... At the Judgment Day PPV, David won thanks to interference by Mr. McMahon, who shoved the referee into the open cage door, which slammed into Carson's face as he tried to crawl out... In November, Carson was given the opportunity to pick the match stipulation for another WWE Title bout, and he chose a 60-minute Iron Man match... Despite an ankle injury, David beat Carson fairly to retain the title... A new #1 contender emerged in December: Mack Wheeler... The "Human Semi" nearly beat David in a one-on-one match on Raw, and then pinned him cleanly in a tag match just days before the PPV... At the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs PPV, Mack appeared ready to win but was attacked by Anarchy, who helped David recover and climb the ladder to retain his title again... In January, it was revealed by a private investigator that David was the unknown assailant who hit DMK's car with the truck at the conclusion of the Judgment Day PPV... Raw GM Stephanie McMahon wanted to strip David of the WWE Title and suspend him, but instead scheduled a 3 Stages of Hell match against Mack Wheeler for the Royal Rumble PPV... Later in the month, it was set as a stipulation that if David was able to win the match, Steph would be forced to step down as Raw GM... At the PPV, David lost the first stage but rallied back to win the final 2 stages to retain the title... During the 30-man Royal Rumble match, David joined the commentary team but was shocked when rival DMK returned as the #30 entry and won despite David's interference... In February, he avoided any confrontation as his biggest rivals were focused on an Elimination Chamber match with DMK's title shot on the line... DMK won the match and kept his title shot and they re-ignited their feud as March began... At a contract signing days before WrestleMania, David offered stipulations that would force DMK to leave the Raw brand and would also absorb the "King" moniker (to supposedly become "King David") if he were to win... DMK also offered stipulations that changed the match to a No DQ/No Countout, demanded that Mr. McMahon resign as Raw GM and re-install Stephanie to her former role and wanted David to waive his automatic rematch clause... At the PPV, Mr. McMahon gave David numerous assists to help him gain control of the match, but Carson Pain returned from an earlier injury to give DMK help and allowed him to win the match and the title from David |
