Ace may take the namesake of the top value in a deck of cards, but he backs up that namesake on a daily basis. Growing up in an athletic family, Ace found many opportunities to prove his natural prowess in multiple sports and earn the trust of his coaches. Following a successful college football career as a defensive back, Ace decided to pursue a new challenge and found pro wrestling to be the perfect choice. He very quickly picked up the moves and his natural charisma led to some very entertaining promos. After a 2-year stint in the independent scene, which included 5 separate title reigns, the WWE offered him a contract and immediately plugged him into the national spotlight. Since then, Ace has set a high bar of superstar abilities and continues to surpass it. Ace developed a heated rivalry with Carson and their title match was scheduled as a Hell in a Cell match at the namesake PPV... Despite being Carson's 2nd match of the night, he beat Ace to win the World Title... Ace continued his feud with Carson into the next month, where he teamed up with Eric Executioner and Big Mutha Trucker against Carson, Gravedigger and Antonio Jordan in a "Good vs. Evil" six-man tag match at the Bragging Rights PPV but his team suffered the loss... In November, he participated in the 20-man battle royal for a title shot but was unable to win... In December, he started to feud with Travis Roarke... In the match, which featured both the WWE champ (DMK), World Heavyweight champ (Gravedigger) and 3 other challengers, Ace shocked all by pinning DMK to win the match and earn a World Title shot... His win began an intense feud with World champ Gravedigger, which built up to a Last Man Standing match... At the Survivor Series PPV, Ace defeated 'Digger to finally claim his 2nd World Title reign... Ace and Gravedigger met again in December at the TLC PPV in a TLC match for the World Title, and Ace was able to scale the ladder and retain the belt... In January, Eric Executioner and Mack Wheeler's feud led to a title challenge, and Gravedigger again involved himself in the title hunt... At the Royal Rumble PPV, Ace defended the title in a 4-way elimination match but retained again, pinning Eric last to win... In February, he defended the World Title again at the Elimination Chamber PPV in the namesake match against Eric, Mack, Gravedigger, Antonio Jordan and Hitman Jack... He was able to outlast all to retain again, pinning Antonio last to win but was disturbed by the crowd's overwhelming support for Antonio and not him... In March, Hitman Jack became the #1 contender and they prepared for a World Title match at WrestleMania... At the PPV, Hitman Jack gave a valiant effort but Ace won to retain the title again, and was again upstaged by the crowd cheering more for his opponent Year 3: Began the year as World Heavyweight champ... On the first Smackdown of the year, he addressed the crowd and turned heel again... Mr. McMahon appeared and announced that one of the new Smackdown draftees would receive a World Title match that night, and later it was revealed to be Rebel Ford... Rebel beat Ace that night to win the World Title... A No DQ rematch was made for the Backlash PPV, where Rebel won to retain... In May, he tried to get revenge on Rebel multiple times but was repeatedly stopped by Angus... This led to a Table Match between Ace and Angus at the Extreme Rules PPV, but Ace was unable to end the "Irish Giant"'s undefeated streak and lost... In June, he formed an alliance with Rebel's former girlfriend Melina... This, along with Melina's victory over Women's champ Eve, led to a "Winner Take All" mixed-tag match for both the World Heavyweight and Women's titles... At the King of the Ring PPV, Eve pinned Melina to win the match and retain the titles for both herself and Rebel... At the beginning of July, Ace took a personal leave of absence... He made a surprising return in October, saving an injured Rebel Ford from an attack by Eric Executioner... Ace challenged Eric to a World Heavyweight Title match, but he wasn't able to capture the belt at the Judgment Day PPV... In November, he lost a #1 contender's match to Antonio Jordan... In December, Triple H replaced Teddy Long as Smackdown GM and created a Fatal 4-Way TLC match for Eric Executioner's World Title, with Ace, Antonio Jordan and a returning Rebel Ford as the challengers... In a Match of the Year candidate, Eric outlasted all to retain his World Title at the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs PPV... In January, Ace formed an unlikely alliance with Rebel Ford and began to move up the tag team rankings... At the Royal Rumble PPV, Ace entered the match at #19 but was eliminated by Hitman Jack... In February, Ace missed out on some key chances due to Vincent Serum... First, Serum interfered in an Intercontinental Title match against Quinn Cadbury, costing him a chance to win the belt... Then in a 6-man battle royal to determine the final qualifier for the World Heavyweight Elimination Chamber, Serum eliminated him early... In March, he & Rebel Ford earned the #1 contender spot for the Tag Team Titles... On the final Smackdown before WrestleMania, they challenged Alpha & Omega but won only by DQ when Alpha struck the referee with the title belt accidentally, on orders from Master Kimoto to perform the illegal act against Ace |
